Die Heimat
by Evropi Thomopoulou
Based on Hermann Sudermann's "Heimat"
The story
Coming back to her family after ten years, Magda faces the conservative society of her homeland and is dragged into a relentless game of power and submission.
The development of the text and our story
The play was written by Evropi Thomopoulou for two actors and a narrator. Starting from the play "Heimat" (also known as "Magda") by Hermann Sudermann and incorporating texts by Dante Alighieri (Inferno) and Franz Kafka (Letters to the Father), we focused on the increasing conservativism nowadays throughout Europe, aiming at highlighting the dynamic relationship between fanaticism, personal responsibility and neutrality.
The journey of the production
After submitting a proposal on "Heimat" in the Contest about "Theatre of the Ideas" in the summer of 2013, Omada 33 was selected to take part in the Festival Theatrical Compositions 2013/14. The performance was thus presented in Theatre Beton7 Arts in 2014 and then we continued our journey in Theatre 104.
